In 2006 Partnerships for Wellbeing embarked on a healthy eating initiative for the Inverness area called Food1st. The aim of Food1st is to promote healthy eating to low income and vulnerable communities; this has been made possible by funding from Lifescan Scotland, Lloyds TSB and the Scottish Community Foundation.

Children's Activities

Younger children...

  • Why not play with your Food?

  • Pasta, rice, lentils and beans all make great pictures

  • Pasta shapes threaded onto string, make good necklaces, you can also paint them

  • (Always supervise younger children)

Older children...

Why not get the children to help you make soup? Just add the ingredients shown here, 2 stock cubes and you have piping hot soup for tea. To help disguise the veg you can blend the soup with a hand blender. Eat with chunk of wholemeal bread

(Small cup of lentils, not the whole bag)

Kielbasa meets the Haggis
This project allows Eastern Central European migrant families and Inverness families living within the same community to come together to share and celebrate their culture through food. Families will be able to try each others traditional fare. The project allows Food1st and other agencies to discover what the food issues are for Eastern Central European migrant families and Inverness families.
